When the pandemic COVID 19 first arrived, there was much comparison with the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 in the press. We now know that although COVID 19 is not a flu, there were some similarities between the two, largely in the way people were impacted in society.
The benefits of living in the moment are unquestionable, however, what can we learn from a glance back in time? It is said a good person or good organization values their history and what they can learn from it. What was going on in Unity and the World in 1918 and how can that help us now?
So, let’s take a glance backward in time, to see if the secret sauce to navigating current times lies in the past. If so, how do we make the recipe today?
About The Speaker
Jennifer "Birdie" Shawker currently serves at Unity of San Antonio as the Communications Coordinator. She also serves as a chaplain at Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, Texas. Prior to this, she served as the Youth and Family Ministry Director at Unity Church of San Angelo for 10 years. She serves as the Social Media Director at Unity of Boerne and has served at Unity Spiritual Center Corpus Christi in the area of communications.
She speaks at her home church periodically as well as at Unity of Boerne, Unity of the Valley, and Unity Spiritual Center Corpus Christi. Birdie is also a Registered Nurse. She has worked as a nurse in many settings, including hospitals, home health, and psychiatric care for over 20 years. Her son, Ryan, studies mechanical engineering at UTSA. She resides in Floresville, Texas with her husband Frank, and a plethora of pets.
